New Neighbors?

After seeing the model and watching my experience with building the house, my parents decided that they might want to build a house too. So Sunday we went back to the development and walked through 4 or 5 houses with them. And they put a reservation down on a lot 5 down from us!

Pre Construction Meeting

We had the pre-construction meeting today. Scott was at the Michigan game, so he couldn't make it, but I brought my parents along so that I could show them everything. I took them through the model (which isn't the Concord, but they could still get an idea of the materials put into the house and stuff) and they were really impressed.

We reviewed the architectural drawings and layouts to make sure everything was like we want. I picked the locations for the cable and phone outlets, and signed off on the options sheet.

We drove by the lot and it now has a sold sign! Very exciting!

And ... they dig our basement next Friday. Seriously. The superintendent said if everything goes on schedule the house could be done in February.

Picking the options...

Yesterday we went to the Model to pick the materials and colors for the house. Jon Paul came with us to help in matching and choosing colors that blend well and won't go out of style. We got everything picked out yesterday in just a few hours. I was drained afterward, but happy with all the decisions we made.

This is our brick and siding colors. The trim will be the same color as the siding and the door and accents will be a dark red.

This is our kitchen countertop and cabinet selections:

The bathrooms all have darker cabinets and we picked a different granite and tile for each bathroom to mix it up a bit. Our hardwood for the kitchen, nook, and foyer is Gunstock Oak (on the darker side). The carpet colors we selected are dark enough that they hopefully won't show dirt.

Next step: Pre-construction meeting! In the meantime, we have a ton of work to do around the Southgate house to get it ready to sell.

The Model

The model we chose is the "Concord". It is 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, approx 1900 sq ft. The kitchen, nook, and great room are all open across the back of the house. Wood floors are standard in the kitchen, nook, and hallway/foyer. 12" ceramic tile is standard in the bathrooms and laundry room. We decided on the library option - giving us more counter space in the kitchen and a closed of office room in the front of the house. We also chose to have the island in the kitchen and the bay window in the nook, and a 3 car garage. Granite countertops are standard in the kitchen and baths. There's a gas fireplace in the great room. The layout is pretty much perfect for my taste.

In the master bedroom we'll have a cathedral ceiling. There's a tiled shower with Euro door in the master bath and a separate garden tub. The walk in closet is actually accessed off the bathroom. The two other bedrooms rooms are good sized and each have a walk in closet. The second upstairs bath has two sinks and a huge countertop area. The toilet and tub/shower are separated from the sink area.

I'm pretty excited to pick all the options and colors!

The Lot

Phase 4 of Woodcreek Park:

We are building on Lot # 192. Our lot backs up to a protected wooded area owned by the homeowner's association. The lot is 71' (front) x 120' x 82' (back). Our address will be 24433 Parklane Dr.

Picture of our lot taken the day we signed the purchase agreement (11/1/2008).

We are building a house!

We are building a house!!!! The development is the 4th phase of Woodcreek Park in Flat Rock, off of Gibraltar Rd. The subdivision is really nice - sidewalks, decorative street lights, a tot lot, private parks, and nature trails. We were told by the builder's rep that our neighbors are mostly young couples which is great. And there are deer all over the place - it's like living in the country almost.

It's close to I-75 and Telegraph, so it will be an easy commute to work for both Scott and I (once the 75 construction is complete). Another bonus is that it's really close to Oakwood Metropark, which connects to Willow and Lower Huron Metroparks. I believe there's even a bike trail that goes from the city hall (right next to our sub) to the metropark. The sub is right behind Flat Rock high school, City Hall, and the library. There's a playscape there, and in the winter an ice rink.

We put a lot on reserve a couple weeks ago and just signed the purchase agreement yesterday. Next step: the builder signs and we review the paperwork and give the go ahead. After that we get a commitment letter from our lender (we already have the pre-approval) and have a meeting to finalize the options that we are including. Approximately 4.5 months after that, we will close on the finished house!

We are excited for the months to come and want to document the whole process!!
